Short-term training kicks off spring classes, scholarships available

OCALA, Fla. (March 8, 2016) – Short-term training opportunities, along with scholarships for eligible students, are now available through CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion and its area education partners.

Brenda Chrisman, CareerSource CLM’s business services officer, said the short-term training programs are ideal for those who want to learn new career skills in a hurry.

“These programs are designed to offer students a competitive edge in the job market,” she said. “They are perfect for those who want to train for a good job, but aren’t able to commit to long-term education or training.”

Chrisman added that CareerSource CLM is “especially pleased to be able to offset the cost of tuition for those who qualify.”

The following spring classes start soon and are offered by the College of Central Florida in Ocala:

  • AutoCAD program meets Wednesdays from March 30 through June 30. The 10-week program combines classroom instruction and online assignments for a total of 60 hours of training. It focuses on mechanical drafting, preparing students for entry-level jobs. Students will receive a certificate of completion from CF. Cost for the class is $240 per student.

  • Warehouse/Forklift/OSHA is a two-week program April 18 through 30 that provides 33 hours of classroom and hands-on instruction. Students learn basic warehouse processes, including shipping and receiving, inventory control/systems and documentation, and forklift operation.  Students receive a CF certificate of completion as well as an OSHA 10-hour certification card. Cost is $340 per student.

Chrisman added that, through partnerships with postsecondary schools such as CF, plans for additional short-term training classes are in the works.
